Our Inspiration

Our Buddy, Jake

Jake's Field of Dreams playground honors the life of Jake Vollmer. Jake was like so many other little boys who dreamed of growing up playing sports! At an early age, though, he was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The disease weakened his muscles but not his spirit. Knowing he would never play like his sports heroes, Jake became the greatest sports fan, cheering for all who played the games he could not. He wanted all kids to be able to experience and have the thrill of being a player. This playground will help so many kids share Jake’s dream - no matter what their ability- to enjoy the thrill of being on the field as a player side-by-side with their peers. Jake passed away in 2012 at the age of 19, but he gave us many gifts. The greatest gift of all is his powerful spirit to love and support others! This playground is dedicated to all kids so they may share in that same spirit.

Our Vision

Why Do Playgrounds Matter?

Play is a critical part of the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of every child. Unfortunately, the vast majority of playgrounds deny children with disabilities and critical illnesses the opportunity for exericise, entertainment and social interactions which other children enjoy.

What is a Universally Inclusive Playground?

A playground specifically designed to remove physical and social barriers so ALL children, with and without disabilities and/or critical illnesses, can play side by side with their peers and families.

What is Unlimited Play?

Unlimited Play is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that helps to plan, design and build fully accessible playgrounds. Unlimited Play playgrounds allow all children - regardless of their abilities - to play together.

Unlimited Play partners with municipalities, local businesses, schools and community groups to help design, develop and build universally inclusive playgrounds.
